We had another successful Xero Hour! October’s Xero Hour focused on onboarding of new clients. Why is this important?

October’s San Jose Xero Hour took place at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Santana Row.  This time we did an evening Xero Hour with dinner included.  It was great! Next month’s San Jose Xero Hour will be at Maggiano’s again, and it will be on November 29th at 5:30 pm.

First the Engagement, then the Onboarding

At this Xero Hour, we discussed the process of onboarding clients. This is an important part of the business because it’s necessary to keep your client base ever growing. We had a nice mix of professionals in attendance. We had someone that owned an IT consulting company, owners of a smart home company that uses Xero, and another consultant that uses Xero, and some of our regular Xero Hour accountant and bookkeepers too. 

  • We discussed who of us actually enjoys selling. One suggestion given was that if you think of selling in the terms of helping people with things they actually need, then selling becomes a positive action.
  • We discussed ways to keep the workflow onboarding process organized.  One way mentioned was using Google Sheets and even using questionnaires through Google Sheets to keep things going smoothly from the beginning of the engagement.
  • Another suggestion that we especially liked was that once an engagement is accepted, then to schedule a call with the new client to set expectations and actually put them on the firm’s schedule.
